Uncertainty, Dreams and Fantasies, Emotional Changes
“Servile spirits (the dog), savage souls (the wolf), and crawling creatures (the crayfish) are all present watching the fall of the soul, hoping to aid in its destruction.” – Papus
As we evolve along the most challenging phase of tarot’s major arcana, we’re not yet “out of the woods” when we reach The Moon. In fact, it might be our darkest night of the soul yet. Thankfully, it’s also a sign that the golden dawn is just around the corner.
The Moon is about the feminine energy within us all, or the dark (hidden), intuitive and emotional beauty of the soul.
But it can also represent the final passing away of attachment to temporal experiences, so that we finally awaken to the more solid eternal bliss and tranquility of the spirit.
The only way to get there is to pass through and embrace the valley of the shadow of death. In other words, it’s okay to feel you’re drowning in the unstable and uncertain realm of feelings, emotions, sensitivities, traumas, dramas or fears. There are ways to love your darkness and turn it into poetic beauty rather than resist it, which only empowers and prolongs it.
The objective is the final letting go of self-identification with the mere passings of this dream world we call the physical realm. You might find certain unevolved persons in your life to instigate or ensure that destruction.
When The Moon Shows Up In A Reading
Health: There might be health issues involving or effecting the stomach or brain – both necessary for health and vitality, with the internal organs being the most important life center of all.
Occupation: You might feel uncertain in your life’s work at the moment. Variables might be unstable or subject to change. Or, if you’re considering a career in film, theater or gaming, this card is your confirmation.
Relationships: There might be mother issues or dilemmas with a female in your life. Or you might feel alone and unstable in your temporary darkness as you release uncaring people and navigate deep valleys and crevices of long-forgotten, buried emotions.
Hidden Meaning: Understand that what you’re experiencing isn’t real. We each take on certain roles such as the heroine or the villain in the shadow drama of the physical realm. We temporarily use this realm of illusion to accelerate the evolution and experiences of our true, eternal self.
Reversed: The Moon reversed could indicate instability, eccentric fickleness especially with affections or attachments. Or there could be a slight error, or lighter deceptions. It could also be a sign of winter, rain or snowfall, change of seasons, or a new moon. Remain silent, patient, and fluid through erratic changes especially changes in emotions, morals, or intuitive insights. Breathe out what needs to be released. Allow what is passing to dissolve or evaporate.
Advice: Now isn’t the best time to make any major life decisions as emotions, circumstances and people are uncertain and changes are likely occurring, as well as drama. It might feel as though your fears are coming to pass or opposition is coming at you from different angles. There may be nothing solid to hold onto as even dreams can’t be trusted. But know that important internal changes that you can’t see are occurring. Instead of resisting the transformation, let go of any attachments and use this time for rest, deep relaxation and self-care until the darkness passes and enlightenment arrives. Remove yourself from any emotional drama or drama-causing people, although enemies might be hidden. Paul Foster Case says there may be “difficulties brought about by the machinations of hidden enemies.” Embrace the loneliness and emotional chaos as you learn to find your stability, serenity and bliss within, no matter what is occurring in your life. It’s the darkness just before the dawn, so hang tight. Hope is around the corner.
Astrological Association: Cancer
Timing: “Major Arcanas mean that no timeframe is specified but instead the issue indicated by the card must first be resolved. Reversals should be noted, as with this system they represent obstacles that must be overcome before the event can occur.” – Barbara Moore
Yes or No: Not yet, release and wait
