Tarot: The Lovers

Sensuousness, Physical Feelings, Human Love, Intuition

The Lovers is one of those cards that has mostly strayed from its original intent.

This most beloved card has to do with love, but the concept of love itself has also been distorted from its origins.

The truth is that love can make us feel pretty good. But it can also make us feel horrific, and all kinds of other things. Its unfavorable implications usually get left out when we think of love. But the emotion of passion wouldn’t be what it is without the whole spectrum.

At some point long ago, love was understood to be the energy force behind all that we think, say or do. It’s the ability to feel. It’s also the guide that guides us, telling us which decisions to make, based on whether something leads to pleasure or misery.

In fact, love is the vibrational frequency of all that is, and leads to both gratification and pain, health and sickness. For none can be essentially separated. It’s only a matter of degrees.

When The Lovers Shows Up In A Reading

Health and Body Image: Your diet may be creating health issues for you, especially as it concerns the central nervous system. But the good news is that you can use diet to resolve those issues. Also, be careful not to bury your feelings. The ability to feel is a gift, and feelings play a vital role in the whole scheme of things. When your emotions are balanced, so is your health.

Occupation and Finances: Do the work which you love, and sell that which you adore.

Relationships: When The Lovers shows up in a relationship reading, it indicates mirrors. For example, if one person feels self-doubt, the relationship will manifest doubt. If one feels confident, the relationship will feel stable. If there’s hostility within, there will be hostility in the relationship. Overall, this card is about healthy love, human love, as well as your soul’s choice. Just remember that the same faculties used to experience love, can also experience heartache. Ultimately, we determine which one we experience.

Hidden Meaning: You can’t change your feelings. But you can change your thoughts, which create your feelings.

Reversed: The Lovers reversed might be a sign that useless or self-defeating thoughts, or improbable plans are creating contradicting feelings for you. Maybe you’re expecting the worst, or maybe your imagination is running wild. But overall, your feelings lack substance, stability and reliability. If referring to a romance, this relationship might be a little too shallow or starry-eyed to be reliable just yet. Watch out for vanity, carelessness or indecision.

Advice: It’s time to get in touch with your true feelings, whether they send you a favorable message, or tell you something you don’t particularly want to hear. Allow your genuine feelings to be your guide. Your emotions fuel your intuition and they’re far more logical and reliable than you’ve been led to believe.

Astrological Association: Venus, Libra

Timing: “Major Arcanas mean that no timeframe is specified but instead the issue indicated by the card must first be resolved. Reversals should be noted, as with this system they represent obstacles that must be overcome before the event can occur.” – Barbara Moore
